DENVER – In conjunction with the Southwest Denver Coalition, the Department of Public Safety’s Gang Reduction Initiative of Denver (GRID) and Denver Public Safety Youth Programs will host the 9th Annual Safe Summer Kickoff at Kepner Legacy on Saturday, June 3, 2017 from 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM, rain or shine.

The Safe Summer Kickoff is a free, family-friendly event where attendees can learn about community and government support services while they enjoy food, live entertainment, prize drawings and a variety of activities. The event is also an opportunity to connect youth with alternative activities during the summer to keep them busy and safe.

50 private and public community organizations will participate in this year’s Safe Summer Kickoff Resource Fair to provide information on youth services, financial security options, community policing, health and wellness options, voting services, and upcoming neighborhood social activities. Bilingual staff will be available during the event, and announcements will be made in English and Spanish.

“This community event exemplifies Denver’s collaborative spirit and commitment to ensuring residents have the information they need to feel safe and supported in their neighborhoods,” said Executive Director of Public Safety Stephanie O’Malley. “It’s about community cohesiveness and getting to know the people who care about this City.”

Festivities at the Safe Summer Kickoff will include face painting, games and activities, music and a performance by the Lincoln High School ROTC. Members of the Department of Public Safety, including the Denver Police, Sheriff and Fire Departments will also attend the Kickoff.

Police will operate a “Safety Village” where attendees can ride tricycles and bicycles and learn about bicycle safety. Additionally, Crime Scene Investigation will be in attendance to do safety kits for youth attendees

The purpose of the 2016 Safe Summer Kickoff is to build community cohesion while promoting a healthy and safe summer for Denver’s residents. Kepner Middle School is located at 911 S. Hazel Court.
